Half way
Friday 27th February marks 4 weeks since we jumped on a plane at Stansted to start our adventure. 4 weeks from today we hop on another plane in Singapore to start the long journey home. So today is half way.
So far:
we liked Dubai more than we thought we would but have not fallen into love with it enough to say we will go regularly. After all we have Vilamoura for our winter sun and that is a darn sight cheaper
we were struck by how clean and laid back Western Australia is
our trip to Sydney was brilliant though its cleanliness and dare we say seedy side seemed in stark contrast to WA
we have thoroughly enjoyed our road trip down the east coast and our visits to Port Douglas, Cairns and Townsville
we discovered Queensland is basically a sugar cane farm
our research on accommodation has really paid off because, touch wood, every place we have stayed in has been different but wonderful and comfortable
we are not sure there are actually any kangaroo’s in Australia (unless dead by the road)
we discovered Burger King in Australia is called Hungry Jacks
The Aussies:
love a road sign. Never seen so many with so many types of instruction. I don’t know if Aussies are not the full ticket because every instruction seems to be rammed down their throats. By example coming down the A1, a fairly fast road, there is a big, sweeping, blind and uphill curve ahead and right before it a “No Overtaking” sign. No shit Sherlock. In the words of Monty Python, “specialist subject? The bleedin obvious”.
don’t like to drink in a bar or pub after 9 and are presumably tucked up in bed by 10. As Steve said, it probably explains all the Aussies in London – they are the ones who like a drink after 9
like a skimpy outfit. In fact for the girls it’s been a bit like Womens Lib Central, if you know what we mean; for the blokes they are just full-time scruffy bastards
are not averse to walking around in bare feet. Which is odd given sand and pavements can burn your feet!
have a lot of empty shops and hospitality
love a pie which we never knew and makes us feel very at home
like a sausage roll, but it’s beef, you can’t get a pork one. We tried one, it’s like eating a burger in pastry, not sure we will repeat that !
can’t actually work in hospitality as all we have met are English guides and Spanish or Irish servers and barman
One Response
Loved following your journey – am sure the next 4 weeks will be just as much fun xx
Happy Birthday Steve x another year older and wiser !
wonder what route the plane will take from Singapore —–
