Most of February and March 2026 are to be spent south of the Equator! This is the trip we have spent many years dreaming of.

We are Steve and Nikki and we have been married since 2001.
We have worked together for 25 years as software consultants, and were lucky enough to enjoy our careers so much that in some cases, it felt like we were on holiday, not working.
In 2024, the stars aligned (well our pension fund did) and we decided we could retire, in Nikki case it was VERY, VERY early retirement. Our working life would actually become one long holiday!
We have a simple goal in retirement – to make use of our new found free time to see some of the world, and here you will find some of our stories.

We have owned our apartment in Vilamoura since 2000. Since retiring, we plan to spend fair amounts of the year relaxing in the warm weather and eating great food, with the occasional beer to accompany. We are not going to journal every single day of our trips, that would be way too boring! However, if we do something different, we will let you know about it.

We hired a motorhome! We are going around the coast of Scotland, you could say an NC500+ and we are taking 4 weeks to do it.

A weeks holiday on the beautiful island of Zante (Italian) or Zakynthos (Greek).

For Christmas 2025, James and Lucy had plans so we decided on another Christmas away. Our first in Norfolk was a disaster, and we hoped for better luck this time.

Nikki spent around 4 years working in Utrecht, and we fell in love with the place. We regularly revisit this wonderful university town.

The story of Uncle Fester aka Mike Carvey

Tucked away in the heart of the Algarve, Silves instantly stole our hearts. This quiet, sun-drenched town feels worlds apart from the busier coastal resorts — a place where time slows down and every corner whispers a story.

The North Coast 500, commonly known as the NC500, is Scotlands answer to Route 66, winding over 500 miles through rugged Highlands, charming villages, and jaw-dropping coastal scenery that could make even the most seasoned traveller weep with joy (or windburn).

5-star Zante hotel – Lesante Blu, one of the Leading Hotels of the World

Perched dramatically on a wooded hill overlooking the picturesque village of Dunster, this majestic castle has been watching over Somerset for more than a thousand years.
