On the rugged shores of Loch Ewe in Wester Ross (isn’t that Game of Thrones) lies a horticultural wonder: the Gardens of Inverewe. What began in 1862 as a barren, windswept headland—with a single stunted willow—has blossomed into a world-class botanical garden, thanks to the vision and tenacity of Osgood Mackenzie.
Although we have no specific interest in botany, we do love to wander around botanic gardens, the one in Cambridge being a particular favourite. We could not miss the opportunity to spend another couple of hours wandering the trails and walks of these magnificent gardens. We hope our gallery shows the gardens at their best.
Apologies but because we are not real gardeners, we don’t know the names of many of the plants we saw!
Help us out – competition time!
Hover on a plant picture, and you will see a number. If you can identify it, leave a comment and we will update the picture.
PS – there is no prize other than your satisfaction at your knowledge.

There is an app you can download called picture this and when you hold your camera to a plant it tells you the name of the plant
