Trucks

It would be safe to say that Nikki became a bit fixated with Australian trucks!

Whenever Steve was driving, she would sit with camera at the ready as these monsters loomed on the horizon, rapidly closed the distance between us, and swept past always accompanied by the click of the camera shutter.

In Queensland particularly, these “road trains” are used to move sugar cane and cattle. There are numerous road signs that warn of additional traffic in the sugar cane season that runs May to October.

As you may have gathered, we encountered a lot of rain in Queensland. One thing that we were incredulous about was truck drivers confidence to overtake in what we regarded as appalling road conditions. We are not just talking about dual carriageways or overtaking zones; they had no issue with overtaking us on single carriage highways, often with bends uncomforatbly visible up the road. Nutters!

Initially, they are quite intimidating, but undertaking a 3-week drive as we did, you soon get used to them and hardly notice them. Unless you are Nikki of course.
